New at the Library: A Bird Watching Backpack

Changing seasons offer many opportunities to see the newly arriving birds in our
backyards and other birds in the fields and forests as well as other ways that the natural world transforms each day.

A new bird watching backpack is now available for patrons
to borrow from the Plattekill Public Library.

The backpack has items that enable patrons to explore birds and much more outdoors.

The John Burroughs Natural History Society donated the backpack to the library
collection as part of its efforts to foster enjoyment and knowledge of birds, insects, animals such as mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, and natural history.

The backpack– also known as a naturalist’s backpack — contains two sets of binoculars (children’s binoculars and adult’s binoculars).

In addition to the binoculars, the backpack has the following items: five identification and nature guides: Sibley’s Backyard Birds of the Northeast; Sibley’s Common Trees in the Cities and Towns of the Northeast and Upper
Midwest; Insects and Bugs of North America; Befriending Fungi, a pocket guide
with info about wild mushrooms, how fungi grow, and more; and Critters of New
York, a pocket guide about New York mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians;
 colored pencils; a notebook; and a magnifier.

Patrons who are Plattekill residents may check out the backpack from the library for three weeks.
