What we're asking for, what it costs, and how we'll keep it transparent.

The Library is sharing the following information so residents have accurate facts and helpful context when considering the project and bond referendum.
The referendum authorizes a maximum project cost of $6.9 million. This amount comes from a detailed professional estimate covering construction, site development, professional services, furnishings and equipment, contingencies, and other project costs. It is not a rough estimate.
After approval and competitive bidding, the project must be managed within the $6.9 million maximum authorization. If final costs are lower, the Library would not need to borrow the full authorized amount. The Library will also pursue grants and other funding for eligible needs outside the bond.
The estimated annual tax for the bond includes both repayment of the bond principal and interest over the financing period.
This is a municipal public-building project in New York, not a standard private commercial project. Requirements such as prevailing-wage labor, site development, and infrastructure affect the budget. Dividing the full $6.9 million project budget by the approximately 7,000-square-foot building does not represent construction cost per square foot.
The Library hires a Town of Plattekill chairperson and two Board of Elections clerks to administer the voting process, and a notary notarizes the results. Library Board members and Library employees do not count the votes. This separation helps ensure the referendum is administered independently.
Questions are welcome. Residents deserve accurate information and clear context when considering the proposal.

Estimates are based on the September 2, 2026 tax impact analysis for the proposed 25-year bond. Final costs may vary.
The Board of Trustees oversees every dollar spent, with public reporting throughout construction.
Independent audits will confirm funds are used exactly as promised.
Upgrades to the existing building are funded through grants, not this bond — keeping the ask focused on the new building only.
