Mission:
The Plattekill Library, which we like to think
of as the Best
Little Library in the Hudson Valley, or The
Little Library that Could, is a
virtual gem in the town of Plattekill.
Generally, our mission is to support the library
in its continuing efforts to serve the people of
the region.
Our specific mission, as per the
statement of our purpose in the current by-laws,
is:
• to maintain an association
of persons interested in good library service
• to increase the facilities
and service of the Plattekill Library
• to enrich the cultural
opportunities available to the citizens of
Plattekill.
Activities of the Friends, also as stated
in our current by-laws, include:
• sponsorship of special
projects
• informing the public of
the resources and services of the library
• securing materials that
are beyond the command of the ordinary library
budget
• performing other services
deemed helpful to the Library.
In addition to meeting regularly with library
staff, we engage in varied activities to support
our mission. For instance, we provide
information to registered voters in the district
to help them understand the importance of
supporting the library's budget. We also have
taken an active role in representing the library
at the annual Plattekill Day festivities.

Fundraising:
In our fundraising efforts, we have had
bakesales, booksales, and lemonade sales. The Friends
community is extremely well-functioning
and supportive - fundraising is always fun!

History
Carol Maxwell was President of the Friends of the
Library from June 2002 to July 2006. Carol started the
friends in 2002 to help the library become a special
district; over the next 4 years she and her relatives
donated copious amounts of time to engage in
fundraising activities and to support the Summer
Reading Program (as well as other library programs).
Carol resigned as President due to family health
problems.
On July 24, 2006, Jean Poirier became President;
Glenn Geher, Vice-President; Amanda Maynard,
Secretary; Caroline Van Duser, Treasurer.
Most recently, Glenn is serving as acting
president as Jean is currently on leave.
